About Me

Hello, my name is Judy and I live in Yorkshire with my Yorkie cross, Tilly. I love animals, especially dogs and know how special and precious every pet is to their owner.  I have always been around animals, starting with dogs and cats from childhood to spending over 20 years living on a small holding in a remote part of the Yorkshire Dales. There I helped rear sheep and pigs and had a pet Jersey cow who I hand milked to produce butter and ice cream.

I took up art and started drawing peoples’ pets about 6 years ago, for free and everyone kept saying how much they liked them and I should be charging.  To tell the truth, I just enjoyed producing pictures of much loved pets and seeing their owners enjoyment and appreciation.  So far I have drawn dogs, cats, rabbits, cows, sheep and guinea pigs.
Now I am enjoying drawing so much, it’s become a major part of my life and I am expanding my horizons.  I am studying for a Diploma in Pet Portraits and am selling my work through advertising and displaying in cafes.

I work mainly in pastels, graphite pencils and charcoal but have recently started producing work using acrylics and oils. I produce realistic art work but sometimes with a little twist.  I love finding the hidden colours in animals fur and experimenting with colour to produce a unique rendition of an animal.

Please look at my art work and don’t hesitate to get in touch if you would like me to draw your furry friend.

What I do

I draw realistic pictures of animals from photographs. I usually use pastels or graphite pencil but have recently started painting with acrylics and oils.

Sometimes I paint on unconventional surfaces, eg. corrugated cardboard.  It produces a unique and interesting backdrop for my art.  I also use a range of conventional papers and canvas. I use professional quality materials for all my paintings.

I pay close attention to detail so I need good, clear photographs to copy from. It’s best to take photographs close up and at the animals eye level. Two or three photos taken from similar angles are helpful so I can really pick out the detail which may not be apparent on just one. These can be emailed to me or posted (recorded delivery). I also like to know a little about your pet and his/ her character to enable me to produce a unique portrait of your best friend which I hope you can cherish for years to come.

If an animal has deceased and photos are limited, please contact me to discuss options as I will always try to do my best.

It usually takes me 3 to 4 weeks to complete a portrait but if you’re thinking of a special occasion such as a birthday or Christmas please allow plenty of time to be on the safe side.

I am just starting out as a professional artist so my prices reflect this. They start from £40 for a portrait but vary depending on the number of animals, if a background is required and size. My work comes mounted and ready to frame.

Please don’t hesitate to contact me by phone or email. I am happy to discuss options with you, give advice or answer questions.
